Amplified Bible version 1.0

The Amplified Bible (AMP) is an English language translation of the Bible jointly produced by Zondervan (a subsidiary of News Corp) and The Lockman Foundation. First published in 1965, it is primarily a revision of the American Standard Version of 1901, incorporating references to various original language texts. The goal of this translation is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the original texts by using additional wording and typographical features to emphasize different shades of meaning.

The Amplified Bible was released in multiple stages, starting with the Gospel of John in 1954, followed by the New Testament in 1958. The Old Testament was divided into two volumes, with Volume Two covering the Book of Job through the Book of Malachi published in 1962, and Volume One covering the Book of Genesis through the Book of Esther published in 1964. The complete Bible was published in 1965, and an expanded edition was released in 1987. In 2015, the Amplified Bible underwent a revision and is now known as the Amplified Holy Bible. This revised version includes further amplifications in the Old Testament and refinements to the New Testament amplifications.

The bulk of the work in producing the Amplified Bible was carried out by Frances Siewert, who was employed by the Lockman Foundation.
